45th Aachen Building Materials Day

12/03/2013

The RWTH Aachen Institute of Building Research is hosting the 45th Aachen Building Materials Day on March 21, 2013. The focus of the event is masonry: this constantly must adapt to increasing demands, such as sound insulation, and heat and moisture protection. The optimization of masonry methods is essential, because 70 percent of all wall structures of residential buildings are constructed with masonry. The building product act also affects wall-stone manufacturers.

Innovative developments will be presented at the event, such as pre-stressed walls, methods for calculating the bending tensile strength, and investigations into the influence of temperature on multi-layer systems. Topics also include current findings on load bearing capacity of basement walls and the compressive strength of walls and architectonic possibilities for the use of walls. The Aachen Building Materials Day offers time to discuss and to exchange experiences aside from the presentations.
